Gesso 4 Sweatpants(Grey)

Gesso is a minimalist series introduced by the brand in 2024. Named after gesso, the primer traditionally used to prepare a surface before painting, the series embodies a clean, foundational approach to design. In previous releases, we explored new possibilities within this foundation through the characteristics of different printing compounds and experiments with garment panel construction.

For the fourth generation of Gesso, we began with two symbols that represent the brand.

(I) Six-Character Knife Coin

Originating from the same Warring States period as our classic Spade Coin logo, the Six-Character Knife Coin serves as another historical reference closely aligned with the character of Cashonly.

For Gesso 4, the original form of the knife coin has been reinterpreted: two individual coins cross as a pair, creating a double-blade emblem reminiscent of a European heraldic shield. A rope motif connects the composition, referencing the ancient custom of threading cords through the holes of coins for everyday carrying and use.

Through this design, the remarkable stories of warfare and the everyday customs of people from more than 2,200 years ago are brought forward into the present.

(II) Original Cashonly Lettering

Typography has always been an unavoidable part of our design process. With much of today’s visual work relying on familiar digital typefaces, Cashonly believes that our lettering should follow the same principle as our original hand-drawn artwork: if it represents us, it should be created by us.

Using a fountain pen and ink, the creative director repeatedly wrote the Cashonly lettering dozens, even hundreds of times. From these iterations, only one version was selected—the one with the most natural momentum, rhythm, and beauty as a graphic symbol.

Calling our work hand-drawn design is not simply a statement.

We put that belief into practice through the way we create.
